Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for San Francisco Boys Chorus Music Education Scholarships

Donations to the Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for San Francisco Boys Chorus Music Education Scholarships at the Marin Community Foundation provides merit-based scholarship awards to choristers who have demonstrated strong musical and vocal promise and whose behavior and Chorus citizenship are exemplary. The scholarships are applied towards the cost of selected chorister's tuition and music education at the San Francisco Boys Chorus.

Madi Bacon founded the San Francisco Boys Chorus in 1948 and was its conductor and Music Director until her retirement in 1972. The Madi Bacon Endowment Fund for Music Education Scholarships celebrates and memorializes her. This Fund honors her courage, her quest for excellence, her élan, and her joyful approach to learning and music making.

In Madi Bacon's Chorus, every single person was an individual and valued. It did not matter whether a boy was a soloist in the concert group or a new singer in the training group. It did not matter if a boy came from a moneyed background or was on scholarship. Madi Bacon did everything she could to help each boy realize his potential and provide him with a real sense of community while singing with the Chorus.

The Marin Community Foundation assumed management of the Madi Bacon Endowment Fund because it is one of the nation's premiere community foundations and provides investment opportunities to help nonprofit organizations thrive. As such, the Foundation's expertise helps grow and protect the Madi Bacon Endowment -- both today and for generations to come.
